Feminised cannabis seeds for Australia
Feminised cannabis seeds are the simplest way to grow in Australia: every seed is bred to produce a female plant, so there's no sexing, no pulling males in week four, and no wasted pots. For a backyard grow where you're limited to a handful of plants, that certainty matters more than anywhere else. Every strain in this range has been selected with Australian conditions in mind — long hot summers, strong UV, and the humidity swings that come with them. You'll find classic photoperiod genetics that thrive when planted in September to November and finish in the cooler weeks of March to May, alongside CBD-rich and high-THC options. Each listing shows the sativa/indica balance, flowering time, expected height and which climate zones the strain suits, so you can match a seed to your patch rather than hoping for the best.

How to choose feminised seeds
Start with your finish date, not the strain name. Every listing shows flowering weeks; count forward from when your plants will start flowering (late January to February for most of Australia) and check the harvest lands before your region's autumn rain. Then look at structure: dense indica-dominant strains yield heavily in dry climates but rot in humid ones, while airy sativa-leaning hybrids do the opposite. The climate tags on each product do this filtering for you. Height matters if you're growing near a fence line — photoperiod feminised plants put in the ground in September routinely pass two metres by March. Finally, decide on effect and flavour last, once you've narrowed the list to strains that will actually finish in your conditions.
Growing feminised seeds in Australia
Photoperiod feminised strains follow the sun: they grow vegetatively through the long days of spring and early summer and switch to flower as daylight drops below roughly 13 hours from late January. That gives Australian growers a long vegetative window and a flowering period that runs through the driest, sunniest part of the year in the south — and the wettest in the tropics, which is why timing and strain choice differ so much by region.
| Region | Plant out | Flowering starts | Harvest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tropical (NT, FNQ) | April–May (dry season) or September with mould-resistant strains | June–July / February | August–September / March–April |
| Subtropical (SE QLD, N NSW) | September–October | Late January | Mid-March–April |
| Temperate (NSW coast, VIC, SA, WA) | October–November after last frost | February | Late March–May |
| Cool (TAS, highlands, ACT) | November after last frost | February | Late March–mid April |
Germinate indoors two to three weeks before your plant-out date, harden seedlings off in dappled shade, and transplant into their final position with the top of the root ball level with the soil. Water deeply and infrequently; mulch heavily in hot regions. Feminised plants stressed by heat, light leaks or erratic watering can occasionally throw male flowers, so keep conditions steady in early flower and inspect for pollen sacs in weeks two to three.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between feminised and regular seeds?
Feminised seeds are bred to grow into female plants almost every time, which is what produces flower. Regular seeds are a roughly 50/50 mix of males and females, so you'll need to identify and remove the males unless you're breeding. For most home grows, feminised is the practical choice.
Can feminised seeds turn hermaphrodite?
Rarely, and usually because of stress — light leaks, extreme heat, or irregular watering. Stable genetics and steady conditions keep the risk very low. If you see pollen sacs among the pistils, remove that plant early to protect the rest.
When should I plant feminised seeds outdoors in Australia?
Photoperiod feminised strains do best germinated from September to November, once frost risk has passed in your region. They'll flower as daylight shortens from late summer and finish between March and May depending on the strain and your climate.
How are feminised seeds made?
Breeders treat a female plant so it produces pollen carrying only female genetics, then use that pollen on another female. The resulting seeds have no male chromosome, which is why they grow into female plants. It's a breeding technique, not genetic modification.
Do feminised plants yield less than plants from regular seeds?
No. Yield depends on the strain's genetics and your growing conditions, not on whether the seed was feminised. The advantage is that every plant you grow contributes to the harvest instead of half of them being males you remove.
Can I clone a feminised plant?
Yes. Cuttings from a feminised plant are genetically identical females, and cloning is the standard way to keep a favourite plant going. Take cuttings in vegetative growth, before flowering begins, for the best rooting rates. ---
